I'm pleased to announce a new strategy called "Counter-Insurgency" is now available for a limited time!
Counter-Insurgency turns air support units (i.e. sentries) into, essentially, predator drones. The strategy also gives you extra protection against Insurrection. Here's a breakdown of exactly what Counter-Insurgency gives you:
All units get:
+2 defense against militia, marines, submarines, stealth planes, sentries
-1 defense against tanks, destroyers, bombers, infantry
+1 view range
Sentry Planes get:
+4 attack (making a total attack of 5)
+5 critical chance
+20 view range
-230 cost
Infantry gets:
-10 cost
Militia gets:
-1 range
Marines, Submarines, Stealth get:
-1 attack
+20 cost
-1 defense when attacked by sentries
To get the most out of Counter-Insurgency, you need to have the Air Support upgrade.
Counter-Insurgency will be available for 1 month, until March 18, 2019. So give it a try!
EDIT: extending CI for 1 more week until March 25, 2019.
Since Insurrection will remain available until March 6, this gives you 2 weeks to try Insurrection vs. Counter-Insurgency, if you want to.
A reminder to scenario players -- if you are concerned about strategies effecting the balance of your scenario, don't forget there is a "disable strategies" option you can use when starting a new game.
As always, please post your feedback about Counter-Insurgency and any if needed adjustments can be made along the way.
edit: I think sentries should only get +3 attack since theres no range nerf for them in this idea (range is quite op indeed), and should get +1 attack against stealth
Blah 5 attack. It needed 6, sultan. You'll see once you actually play it.
Bad idea, witch doctor...apparently, this is your dumb idea to counter MoS/stealth.
Except it doesnt counter mos. Mos already spams a lot of infantry which is the counter to this strat. You could just use marine and stealth to expand versus neutral and then use infantry to attack your enemy.
Just for the record, I am against the addition of this strategy. Rock/paper/scissors strategy setups are bad for the game. It's bad enough that we have ds and blitz. We don't want more of these imbalances. It dumbs down the game to just picking the right counterstrat to win. Besides the strategies that this is designed to counter arent even that strong in the current meta.
I think we should look at new units now for the default map. That would help us innovate new strategies.
Along with this, I think we should look at editing and balancing the default map to enable further accessibility and create a wider range of competitively viable maps.

lol but it does counter your stealth...then, you are stuck with making infantry and other units....which defeats purpose of stealth hehe

It's quite hilarious how this already-debunked argument was repeated word for word in this post. Well, this strat is useless for scenarios anyway so I'm not really worried but still.
So it's a blitz like oriented strat used to counter ONLY GW and INS. Also If you need attack you have tanks Sentry planes are only to hunt shealts. If you want this to be a viable strat disable The Deff nerf or this strat Will be quite useless this strat needs to be playable without using sentry planes vs non stealth oriented. That's my opinión based only in numbers and in the balance we have since in a nub scenario player.
Oh come on guys, the strat is barely out and everybody already complaining like they usualy do. You know its verry hard to please with an audience like this? Give them some slack, we've seen 2 new strats in less than 2 months, while we haven't seen a new strat for years now.
Just give it a try, give your two cents and then try to fix/balance/tweak it, instead you guys give type of comments like ''This strat was doomed to work blabla''.
Not sure why people are expecting counter insurgency to be game changing. This is what happens when you suggest a balanced strat. It has its uses and isnt completely dominating.

We've seen two new strats, with no thought process what so ever. Just fire and forget. Doesn't matter the consciences.
No offence to dave but he is just a rank 5. He doesn't understand the game yet. Maybe ask people before just dumping on the game.

Imagine if the current relentless attack never existed as a strat and was just added today. Idiots like you would cry that it's an idiotic new strategy. "oh my gosh this relentless attack thing sucks, it's so weak and your tanks arent strong enough to make the difference." No offense JFreder but when you're a flat earther, your critical thinking skill is already thrown out the window.

The strategies a pile of shit. You dont need critical thinking to understand that!

Makes me cringe every time I see it,right after I cringe after seeing new strat

I'm more than happy to be proven wrong, I'll be testing asap

This is another infantry strat by reducing infantry cost by 10 and giving it 8 defence against Marines and Militia. Another one-unit type spam strategy. Except that it's worse since it wants to follow a rock-scissor-paper principle. What that really does is make your success dependent from luck. It fails to give sentry planes an unique role.
My opinion about this strategy after some tests, i find it based only on one thing, it is counter to the strategies that rely on the marines and militia like (GW,MoS and ins..), as we already know that these strategies is rarely used because it needs some specific conditions, add a new counter strategy against those stra is...
Otherwise, it can be used against other strategies but you must always take the offensive role, and for that this stratgey needs more offensive power like 6/7 for Sentry Plane, but it also has a negative side, that will make it more powerful with the high range of Sentry Plane
The bottom line is, it's good to see some new additions to the game, but after INS there is no point to add more new strategies rn, because we already have enough stra for each unit, and what we really need is some new units as laochra said, so we can make new strategies based on it, I know it will be difficult to add a new unit and find a balance between it and the existing units, but i'm afraid to say, without that it seems as if we go in circles.

''People ask for criticism, but they only want praise.''
I think we should add buildings, or make an auto building spawn for every rein turn in all cities/ caps. Theres a buildings tab with nothing in it...
(maybe or maybe not the best idea) Add more plane varieties with not insane costs, most people try to save money so they only make full inf spam which gets pretty boring pretty quick?
Why is insurrection even a strat, it is absolute cancer, now we have this chemotherapy to counter it instead of just removing insurrection. and i hope you understand that disabling strats on a scenario will really mess it up

Power creep and test periods. I don't believe anyone said that CI is a counter to INS, though? And strategies are being built around the default map, not Scenarios. Adapt your maps or move on.

how do i adapt a map i didnt make when the mapmaker hasnt been on atwar in 3 years and doesnt allow clones?

What map is it? I'm sure Dave or a mod could help unlock it if it's a major map. Otherwise, make a new one! We have a large deficit of maps. Ask Hellykin or Tunder for help if you're not accustomed to making maps.

there is more than one map with a missing mapmaker

i explained why this doesnt work and you still post it have some dignity

That is a nice way to trick to community into thinking you are doing something creative while doing nothing creative at all
stop being such a tightass seriously, I peronsally do not like these new strats but players like you cannot be satisfied with anything. >have admins that do nothing >proceeds to bitch and complain >has admin that makes TEMPORARY update just to see how players feel about it >gonna bitch and complain
Honestly, people are getting way more overzealous over these new strats that are temporary than they did when Ivan and amok changed the already existing strats like IF, RA, etc permanently.
