To make the game more in-depth I am proposing the idea of adding different improvements to cities to boost unit strength. For example, if you have a city on the coast you could build a naval base in that city to boost the stats of the units built in that coastal city. Or if you have an inland city you can build barracks to increase the stats of tanks or ground units in your cities. Any feedback is appreciated.

I support your idea. It is a good concept indeed

Support. But not just any old perk, it has to be specific to a certain unit/s and it has a max capacity to man it and get the bonus. To balance it out you should be able to build stuff for offense as well as defense, don't have an idea for what those could be though. Maybe you could build mobile camps and stuff.

How will the game keep track of everything? Will there be a new unit called 'Tank MK II' or something?
I don't support this idea. There's already enough units in the default game. If you want to play a game that has boosts to certain units, you could always make/start a custom map with it.

The fact is this game is becoming a game of if you have a the most upgrades and the most units you will win 90% of the time. I am trying to propose ideas that allow the use of more strategy while also keeping the game fun. I hate games where a large unit stack always wins. It will become a game of who can build the biggest unit stack to destroy another large unit stack. I am trying to promote the quality of a unit of the quantity of a lot of units. I still believe higher ranks deserve upgrades, but their should be ideas implemented that promote craftiness and creativity, not just overall strength.
