15.01.2016 - 21:04 AtWar is full of maps created by players in the community. Some maps are amazing, while others could be easily flushed down a toilet. All good maps should be made with patience and good care, like historical maps, which need to be precise and accurate. Quality maps also have balanced units, which means that units are not too OP and that there are not too many. OP units can ruin overall gameplay and earn maps hate and heavy criticizing. Ancient World is a map created by Avatar and Emperor KFF. The map is a clone of the default Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa. The borders, however, are quite different. Territories include ancient empires, such as the Carthage Empire, Mesopotamia, and even the Kingdom of Porus. The map also includes many different tribes to conquer. There are several different units in this map. Like most historical maps, there are different units for different regions. Roman Legions, for example, are available in Italy. Elephants can be recruited in parts of India and Carthage. While having different varieties of units adds flavor to the map, having too much can spoil it. It is very frustrating when you attack another region of the map to find that you cannot recruit the same troops. Also, when you attack your foe with the troops that had been excellent in battle, you may find that their regional defenders are a bit stronger than let on. This map is very popular. It is well liked by the Atwar Community and there are daily games with this map. The part I enjoyed the most was how fast you could expand. You could start as a very small country and conquer 4-5 territories in one turn. Soon enough, you get into border problems with your neighbor, and that leads to an epic battle. Another really interesting thing about this map is that you can play with different options. For example, you can start off with 2-3 countries (really fun, by the way.) and expand them and fight many enemies at once. Who doesn't like seeing their nation rise from being a small territory to a huge empire that has influence over Europe. I said earlier that too many units can ruin how the map is played, but that is not the case here. Even though this map has many units, they have a weight on them. For example, Roman Legions are tough units, but they have a tough competition against the war elephants. This is the same situation as with many other units in this map. Here's a tip: Don't waste too much money at the beginning, you'll need it later on. The idea is to use just the right amount of units to capture a country. If you use up all your money to conquest, you wont have enough to fight against other players who threaten you. Ancient Europe Some of the many, many units. More units!
