Hey there chumps. Humanity? Why is this our topic of discussion? What exactly IS our topic of discussion? Well, I'd like to speak about how our species came to be, all the misadventures we had along the way, and how different we have become as a species since our inception. Think of this thread as a chronicle of what all of us know- Any topic from our history is to be spoken of in this thread! Anything you find interesting, whether it be Sumer, the Etruscans, or even the Empire of Liberty. Why are we talking about this? Because a lot of us love history, and since there STILL is no history forum, I thought it'd be enlightening to have some mini-conversations here. Three rules, though: No arguing. No Bias (Unless you state your bias beforehand). And, you must adhere to this format of conversation: >Claim (EX: "Yo, dem Romans. Whatchu be thinkin' of dem?") >Opinion (EX: "I love dem Romans.") >Evidence (EX: "I like em cuz they badass and dun fraid' of nuthin.") >Restatement (EX: "What bout chu?") Please follow a format similar to this, to ensure we don't go off into a flame-war like we always. Fucking. Do. Kay? Aight. I'll dual-post our first topic of discussion to kick things up and to be a better example than mah main nigguh' Tyrone's from above.

04.04.2014 - 15:29 Eridu: Fall of Eden Eridu, the first city made by Man. Why is such an important achievement of mankind now under a mile of sand and blood? What significance does it have to us nowadays? What do we know about it? A brief description: From a personal stance: Eridu resonates within my thoughts as an extremely holy and sanctified place. I find it's sinking into the Tells a bit disturbing, yet fitting on it's own. See, Eridu was indeed the first true city erected by our species, upon the moors and holms of southern Mesopotamia, and can be seen as the true death of the Garden of Eden seen in all Abrahamic religions, considering the ideal of simple life upon floating huts in these marshes was destroyed upon man stepping onto land, and erecting temples to his gods. The city was originally but a cluster of three Ziggurats, and over time developed into a much more complex settlement. These Ziggurats, appearing extremely large in nature, could have influenced and even have been the story of the mythical Tower of Babel (Cuz fuck you, Babylon). This was a city in a collection of five to have been built before the fabled Deluge of the Fertile Crescent (I can't remember the names of the other four for the life of me). Now that we have a background on it history...what would it be like if it were still around today? This is my question. Personally? I feel as though the only way it could have survived, was if our society had focused on belief-bound progression, or in some way depicted a world in which we would see as alien, because it would have been so much different, due to the culture and traditions of Eridu being so archaic and eonic compared to our modern one. What say you?
