Just curious. A lot of games always have three (or more) specific elements when playing that are extremely important. In AtWar, I only see two: Units, and Cities/Countries. I don't count Upgrades/Strategies, as they more/less effect units, and don't necessarily constitute a pillar of importance (Even though they are practically Pay2Win options, honestly). My question is, what would constitute that third pillar of importance in gameplay? Negotiating (Alliances/Peace), maybe? Just chime in what you think it would/should be.

The third pilar of AtWar-Afterwind is the ingamechat, sometimes is just random.

Strategies are big role in AW, you are not going to play like PD if you are GW, so even if you don't count strategies as extremely important, I would argue they are; because, the summation of the cost and effectiveness of the units ultimately falls upon the strategy you chose. This game is not payed to win, because as a low rank (all the way until rank 7), I did not have premium and I still won lots of game single handed, so please don't spew false information. The reason I bought premium was because I enjoyed the game, and wanted to support the developers. In addition, I have many alt. accounts in which they do not have premium, yet I still kill high ranks in.

You get advantages when you pay. You can still win without them, it's just harder.

Indeed but it is definetly not pay to win. All you really get to help you in game is the general and that doesnt really help until later in your rank progress once you start getting some good upgrades for it.

This, so in a sense it is pay to win, two same skill players same strat the one with general will win. It is deadly especially when you know how to use it and certain strats.

I was referring to Upgrades / Strategies being paid with SP as P2W, guess I should've made that clear. You cannot beat someone with upgrades while you have none.

A person with every upgrade can send advanced units, higher-capacity transport, and better strategical units than someone who does not have upgrades. If you used no upgrades whatsoever (including no strategy), against someone who had all of them, the percentage of you losing- tactics or no- is slim to none. This, in my opinion, is Pay To Win, as you can buy unit upgrades that are permanent.

Yes but who said that upgrades are premium only? Non premium players can buy those same upgrades (except general upgrades). Unless that has changed your argument is invalid.

Premium can certainly help if you like the extra strategies it gives you and it definitely helps you to get upgrades earlier, but it is not actually that big of a deal because premium strategies can be outplayed by other strategies and if you are a good player then you will get the upgrades anyways.

First of all: pay2win means you have to pay real money to compete against people who do so too. This game is pay2win for just one small reason: The general. (And perhaps the strategies provided) Apart from that, the upgrades are NOT pay2win, because you can get them without paying for them with real money. I think this is a very bad thing for the game, hope they might change this. Like only able to add a special picture if you're premium or something.

General and premium strategies are not that important. They are important, but thrust me, a high rank player wihout premium would be able to beat a low rank with a general and a premium strategy. If you call that pay2win... Premium features are not a bad thing for the game.

IDK about that. I just lost a 84 turn world game because of my opponent's general. The defense boost stopped me from re-capping. General + upgrades = stronk
