Alexis de Tocqueville wrote this in 1835... read the whole thing he perfectly describes how society is today. Our increased intelligence only amplifies what already existed, it does not make us more rational or change us fundamentally.

Sounds better in French, cause tocqueville was both a great thinker and a great writer, a beautiful writing style tbh, almost as pure as chateaubriand
