Hola fellow atwarians, I was hoping one of you may provide me with some historical context surrounding Persian history, namely the events leading to the different groups that ruled the country specifically the Seleucids, the Parthians, the Sassanids, and (I think) the Qajars. (Assuming the order is correct) what caused each one to rise and fall? Thanks i advance

Beats me, i don't know, never learned that, only mentioned on faculty(3 out of 4 years study european medieval age though).

I could only guess that size and strength of Iran was the main cause; of the situation where dynasties(parties) change without foreign occupation and foreign regime changes (from Arab invasion 700 to Anglo-Soviet invasion in 1941). One dynasty was was strong because had generals and nobles as allies, then lost them and fell, the new one had support, but lost it eventually and fell, then circle repeats. Isn't it always like that.

At some point Indo-Europeans went there and developed into the Iranian branch, the main two groups were the Persians and the Medes, the Medes at some point grew into an empire conquering the Persians and other people and they helped to finally defeat the Assyrian Empire but then the Persians revolted and took control of the empire, then they invaded everyone and everything and forged the Achaemenid empire, until they were halted by the Greeks. Then they had a couple of civil wars and nothing much changed until Alexander conquered the Achaemenid Empire, when Alexander's Empire fell apart Persia was under control of the Seleucids but they lost it soon enough to an Iranic people, the Parthians, who invaded from the northeast. The Parthians took much of the Middle East and Central Asia. They then came into contact with the Romans and fought a lot of wars with them, mainly over Armenia, and overall they resulted in nothing. Then a rebellion happened and the Parthian rule was replaced with native Persian one, creating the Sassanid Empire, which also fought with Rome and then Byzantium and conquered much of it but were then driven back, overall the wars with Rome resulted in total stalemate. Then the Arabs came and fucked them roally, converting them to Islam. They were part of the Caliphate for a while but then they got independence but then they got conquered again, by Turks this time. Then other Turks came to conquer those Turks, and then other Turks came and conquered them. This continued for a while with a brief interruption by a Mongol invasion. Although the ruling dynasties were Turkic those empires had their backbone on Persian culture and civilisation. Eventually they settled on the Safavids for a while but then the Afghans invaded and everything went to shit until a real badass named Nader came along and slaughtered Afghans, Ottomans, Mughals, Caucasians and basically everyone that bordered Persia but his dynasty did not last because he was also tyrranical and paranoid so he was assassinated. Then there were a lot of civil wars but eventually the Qajars took control, they lost a few outlying territories but they stayed in control of the country. then after WW2 they became simple figureheads and there was democracy but then there was a coup by the British and the US that put the king back to the throne but then there was another coup by Islamists who made modern Iran then they fought Iraq in a bloody war that resulted in nothing then they decided to hate the Saudis instead because they were a different shade of sandnigger so they support anti-Sunni governments and organizations in the Middle East the end.

But then Sparta allyfucked with Persia in order to beat Athens, thus making Greece its bitch until Alexander decided to turn the tides... the rest I didn't read, too damn long
