Well it is a public vote. Its basically if all 5 of the maps were hosted at the same time which one would the join 1st,2nd,3rd etc.

Is a nice background all thats is needed to be considered a good map maker?

Well thats the problem public vote system are alway opened to rigging. Its really up to the public to vote honestly and not be bias towards certain maps. I'm always open to ways to improve the public vote system but I never get suggestions, either it is impossible to improve it or people are just lazy.

There is no set of specific things that defines who is a good or bad map maker, contests will be rigged until somebody comes up with a proper standar, because everybody has a different opinion about who's maps are good. (Democracy is evil)

For example, i would put border quality above everything else. For me the border quality and city density within a border is the only thing that matters, could careless of the balance, accuaracy, and fun of the map.

I judge border quality by how complex and realistic it is, if the map is full blown fantasy then its already a minus on my list. (For this reason i dislike CD maps.)

Meh, I feel you are wrong there. Even if the borders are complete crap (which many are on various maps (none of these though)) what really matters is how fun it is to play. It's a game, after all.

public vote is biased, lets be honest the majority of people who vote wont look at any of these maps and base it off the map maker and who they like, so that kinda defeats the point, and seperate to this convo, bonker dont be so butthurt that your map isnt in top 5, just because we dont come up with a "new map" (despite columna's map not being new as it has ideas based in history so yeah totally "new idea") doesnt defeat that these other maps are good maps and a lot of work was put into them, at least with an original map you dont have to spend so much time and work researching stuff, I would venture to say that making maps based on history or past stuff is even more work and even more challenging, and our maps arent copies, even if the idea has been done b4 it is still original work, and I can speak for tunder and my map that I researched everything without using other maps as reference, so stop bitching that we map makers are shit and that you pathetic 3v3ers are so amazing and bragging and shit, yes you made a map and you lost, go cry to mods and players who care
