Discontinue "quote" function ad infinitum?

Is there anyway we could stop people from quoting a quotation that was quoted at the top of the page that was requoted from the previous page that was requoted from the line above that was requoted 2 minutes ago that was a re-re-re quote of last night's quote?

cause that's a shitload of scrolling for the same measly 'almost funny' gif that was 'kinda funny' the first time around but grated on the nerves the 31st time i saw it. also i think it would save you guys a shitload on your server's memory capacity and streamline your forums, but i'm not a cool, trendy computer IT guy, i just know it's a pain in the ass to wade through and seems completely bass ackward. if someone's not intelligent enough to know which post you're replying to, do we really need that level of dumb-assery around, hitting the quote button like a meth-monkey?
